For this project, I wanted to explore how a fashion company like Steve Madden operates within the stock market, especially considering the unique challenges the industry has faced over the last few years. I started by researching the history of the company, including its founder, leadership team, and business model. Understanding the brand’s background helped me contextualize their stock performance.
From there, I focused on how external events—especially the COVID-19 pandemic—impacted Steve Madden’s financial standing. I looked into revenue changes, stock price fluctuations, and company responses to the market crash in 2020. Then I compared this to their recovery and performance in 2023, gathering stock data for specific weeks in both years to show trends over time.
To visualize this, I collected weekly stock opening and closing prices from both 2020 and 2023, then created charts and bar graphs to illustrate the changes. I also summarized key financial figures like revenue, net income, and earnings per share (EPS) to highlight how the brand bounced back after the pandemic.
Throughout the process, I used a combination of financial reports, industry news, and credible data sources to support my findings. The project allowed me to blend fashion industry knowledge with real-world financial analysis, which gave me a better understanding of how fashion brands are impacted by—and respond to—economic shifts.

By completing this project, I gained valuable insight into how fashion companies like Steve Madden operate within the stock market and respond to major economic disruptions. I was able to see firsthand how external events, like the COVID-19 pandemic, directly impacted financial performance, and how a brand can recover through strategic planning and digital growth.
Tracking real stock data and interpreting financial reports helped me connect business concepts to real-world scenarios. Overall, this project gave me more confidence in analyzing market trends and understanding the financial side of the fashion industry.
